Did you know that on April 21st, 2004, DC City Council and the DC Language Access Coalition made history by passing the DC Language Access Act?
Today, we all benefit from this important law that requires that immigrants that work, study and live in the District residents are treated with equity and dignity. Our organization, Many Languages One Voice (MLOV)’s work is rooted in the ongoing enforcement of this and other human rights legislation, through advocacy and community organizing.
MLOV is hosting a special 10th anniversary event on April 17, 2014 commemorating this important milestone. At this event, At this event, “In My Own Words,” we will honor the architects of the Language Access Act including the diverse, multi-ethnic founding members of the DC Language Access Coalition through a showcase of local artists such as Quique Aviles and Anu Yadav and offerings prepared by local restaurants. Additionally, attendees will have an opportunity to learn from and network with MLOV’s immigrant youth organizers that comprise the Student Multiethnic Action Research Team, in addition to DC government officials, professionals and philanthropists working to support immigrant and language access advocacy in DC.
We will further mark the 10th Anniversary of DC’s Language Access Act by launching a special “Fund for DCLAC” which will focus on collecting resources to ensure many more decades of dignity for Limited English Proficient communities in DC.
Your organization or business can sponsor this momentous anniversary by purchasing an ad which will appear in the "In My Own Words" program booklet! In exchange, we will provide you with complimentary passes to the event and remember you forever for having contributed to the first ever "Fund for DCLAC" :)
Please submit ads in JPG, GIF, or TIFF file format and in high resolution, including all necessary font files and images. Send via email to sapna(at)mlovdc.org by April 1st with subject: "10th Anniversary Ad Submission: [NAME OF YOUR ORGANIZATION]".
